How Does Reiki Work?
The word Reiki comes from the Japanese words “rei,” meaning universal, and “ki,” which refers to the nonphysical energy that flows through everything that is alive, including plants, animals, and human beings. Although we can’t see it, this energy vibrates, which means that we (and everything else in the world) also constantly vibrate.
Reiki has a long healing tradition in medicine, particularly in the nursing world—it’s really safe and gentle.
Robert Graham, MD
Energy can stagnate in the body where there has been physical injury or emotional pain. In time, these energy blocks can cause illness and disease. Reiki draws from the universal life energy to help the flow of our own energy and remove blocks, similar to acupuncture or acupressure. Improving the flow of energy in and around the body can enable relaxation, reduce pain, speed healing, and reduce other symptoms of illness.
The Reiki practitioner is the conduit between the client and the source of the universal life force energy; the energy flows through the practitioner’s energy field and through their hands to the client. The energy does not come from the practitioner themselves.
What Happens in a Reiki Session?
During the treatement I will place my hands lightly palms down on or just above your body in specfic energy locations. Generally I will go through a series of 12 to 15 different hand positions. The length of time I leave my hands in each position is determined by the ebb and flow of energy through my hands at each location. There is no pressure, body manipulation or massage. Like water settling in the lowest location, the energy flows to where there’s a depletion.
Sessions are usually conducted in my studio, but, I can also visit you if circumstances make travel difficult for you.
